ghasem Hajizade

Qasem Haji-Zadeh, a painter, was born in 1947 in Lahijan, Iran. He studied at the Tehran Academy of Visual Arts. For a period, he worked for National Radio and Television, but ultimately resigned to pursue painting seriously. Guided by Ardeshir Mohasses, Haji-Zadeh turned to figurative painting. His most significant works focus on the Qajar era, and after the 1979 Revolution, his paintings predominantly depicted the Jangal Movement led by Mirza Kuchak Khan. Another part of his work draws inspiration from family photographs, which has become a recognizable element of his art. During the 1960s, Haji-Zadeh held several exhibitions. In 1986, he emigrated to France, where he currently resides. Qasem Haji-Zadeh is recognized as a Pop Art artist in Iranian art. With a Pop perspective, he addresses various historical and political themes, while also referencing memories and souvenir photographs. Haji-Zadeh is a painter of nostalgia. Many of his works are infused with ironic humor, including a series inspired by the Qajar period. Most of his paintings are executed in abstract, portraiture, and figurative styles using oil, acrylic, and gouache techniques.
