ghodratollah agheli

The artist Ghodratollah Agheli, a sculptor, was born in 1968 in Jolfa, Iran. His passion for art began in childhood, and he pursued formal studies in art at the Mirak Art School in Tabriz. After completing his diploma in 1988, he moved to Tehran and began his professional career in sculpture at the Visual Arts Center of Hozeh Honari, affiliated with the Islamic Propagation Organization. During this period, he met the contemporary artist Hossein Khosrojerdi, who had a profound influence on the development of Agheli’s artistic vision and sculptural approach. Agheli’s first solo exhibition was held in the early 1990s at Jamshidieh Gallery in Tehran. Since then, his solo shows have been presented in various galleries and institutions, including Mamiz Gallery at the Artists’ House, Shirin Gallery, Tsaless Gallery, Etemad Gallery, and many others. In addition to his solo exhibitions, Ghodratollah Agheli has been actively involved in group exhibitions, art fairs, and both national and international biennials. His international participation includes the 56th Venice Biennale, the 6th Beijing Biennale, the 2nd Tehran Urban Sculpture Biennale, the 4th World Islamic Painting Biennale, and the 1st Esmail Hasani Typography Biennale. In recent years, Agheli’s work has gravitated toward conceptual sculpture, characterized by innovative use of diverse materials and contemporary media such as video. The human figure remains the central focus of his sculptures, most of which are cast in bronze. Agheli’s publications include books such as From Volume to Lili, 100 Years of Modern Sculpture, Research on the Origins of Kilim Motifs, and Collection of Islamic Patterns, as well as numerous articles on contemporary sculptors worldwide. The book Shadow in the Wind: Selected Works of Ghodratollah Agheli, published in 2018, presents a curated collection of his works. His artworks have been featured in major domestic and international auctions, including Tehran Auction, Iran National Auction, Artibition Auction, Gallery Ayam Dubai Auction, and Millon & Associés Paris, and are currently held in prominent private and public collections.
