Hossein TADI

Hossein Tadi is an Iranian drawing artist born in 1984 (1363 SH) in Tehran. He began his professional practice in drawing in 2004, and held his first solo exhibition at the Artists’ House of Iran under the title “Abstraction Is Dead.” Since 2005, he has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions. Tadi has worked at the Design House as a consultant and organizer, and has carried out many projects in various Iranian cities, including Tehran, Shushtar, and Kish Island, as well as internationally in countries such as the Netherlands, Italy, Turkey, and the United States. He was one of the nominees for the Asia Prize, and several of his drawings are archived in the Drents Museum in the Netherlands. His primary focus is on contemporary drawing, installation, and interdisciplinary studies. His approach is largely shaped by lived experience and social and human concerns. For more than a decade, after completing his works, Tadi has intentionally erased parts of them using an eraser in order to create the concept of uncertainty/indeterminacy. Scale plays a key conceptual role in his practice, as he seeks to construct a larger space for what he calls the “lost space of art.” In this context, he has presented monumental drawings such as “50-Meter Elegy” and “Deep Breath.” By creating immersive spatial experiences, Tadi aims to dissolve the boundary between the viewer and the artwork.
