Abbas Katouzian, a painter of realism and naturalism, was born in 1923 in Tehran. He studied painting in the school of Kamal-ol-Molk and is regarded as the continuer of his artistic path. His works include realistic portraits, still lifes, and scenes of Iranian social life. Among his well-known paintings are The Kurdish Girl, The Old Painter, The Termeh Seller, and The Gaze of the Sage. Katouzian held numerous exhibitions in Iran as well as in European and American countries, introducing Iranian culture and identity to the world. His works, admired for their attention to detail and visual storytelling of Iranian life, earned recognition from both artists and audiences. He passed away in April 2008.
