Saghar Hamzeh Lou

Saghar Hamzehloo, born in 1989 in Tehran, holds a Bachelor's degree in Painting from Tehran University of Art. Her work is recognized for its critical perspective on urban life, employing a variety of symbols and motifs to reflect the complexities of contemporary society. Animals often serve as substitutes for modern humans in her paintings, illustrating the relationships and tensions inherent in city life. Hamzehloo has held several solo exhibitions at Shirin Gallery and Arte Gallery, and her works have been featured in numerous group exhibitions, art fairs, and both domestic and international events, including Art Scope NY and the online Teer Art Advisory exhibition. Her pieces have also been presented in prestigious festivals and biennials such as the 10th International Fajr Visual Arts Festival and the 5th Damoonfar Biennial. Through a precise aesthetic combined with social critique, her art invites viewers to reflect on urban living and contemporary identity.

out of the necessity to endure

The group exhibition Emergency Bag, curated by Atefeh Mahmoudheidari and Ali Ghasemati, will be held on Friday, 12 Dey, at Artibition Gallery. The exhibition presents works in painting, sculpture, video art, installation, and interactive art. The concept of this event has taken shape in response to temporal and spatial conditions marked by crises, and to the multiple, polyphonic ways individuals respond to states of emergency.

"Connection with the collective past"

Tehran, a city with a layered history and culture, is rich in urban symbols and historical monuments that not only shape the visual identity of the capital but also form an inseparable part of its residents’ collective memory. From the Azadi Tower to its squares, bridges, and landmark structures, these elements have evolved into a dynamic platform for portraying social, cultural, and historical narratives in contemporary Iranian art. Examining these symbols within artworks provides an opportunity to explore the connection between urban identity and artistic expression from a fresh perspective. With this in mind, we take a closer look at some of the works featured in the “Tehran” exhibition.
