Afshin Pirhashemi

Afshin Pirhashemi, a painter, was born in 1974 in Tehran, Iran. He began studying painting under Babak Etemadani and later continued his education at the Islamic Azad University of Tehran, although he did not complete his university studies. He subsequently received a scholarship from the Government of Italy and attended a training program at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome. His first solo exhibition was held in 1990 at Bamdad Gallery in Tehran, after which he gradually established his presence on the international art scene. From the early 2010s, his continuous collaboration with Ayyam Gallery expanded the presentation of his works to cities such as Dubai, London, and Beirut. Alongside numerous solo exhibitions, Pirhashemi also participated in major international art fairs including ARCO Madrid, Art 15 London, and Abu Dhabi Art. He received several prestigious awards, including recognition at the Sixth Tehran Biennial and the Beijing Biennial. His work primarily focuses on the representation of female figures, offering a critical narrative on their social position in the contemporary world. Afshin Pirhashemi passed away in 2024 in Tehran.
