Alfred Yaghobzadeh

Alfred Yaghobzadeh is a documentary and news photographer born in 1958. Originally from Iran and currently based in France, he was born into a cultured family to an Armenian father and an Assyrian mother. Yaghobzadeh was initially a student of architecture, but during the demonstrations of the 1979 Iranian Revolution, he turned his lens to the streets and the people—a turning point that marked the beginning of his career in news photography. Over the years, Yaghobzadeh has captured iconic images from some of the most pivotal political and historical moments in contemporary Iran and around the world. He has photographed several world leaders, numerous revolutions, and wars—including the Iran-Iraq War. His collaborations span internationally renowned publications such as Stern, Paris Match, and The New York Times, as well as agencies like Sipa and Sygma in France and beyond. His accolades include the World Press Photo Award, the American Overseas Press Award, three Prix ANI awards in France, and serving twice as a jury member for the World Press Photo contest. Yaghobzadeh is regarded as one of the most significant war photographers of his time.
