Bijan Nemati Sharif

Bijan Nemati Sharif was born in 1947 (1326) in Qaemshahr, Iran. He studied Sculpture at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Tehran, between 1967 and 1973 (1346–1352). Throughout his professional career, he became widely known for creating puppets for numerous theatrical productions, as well as sculptures inspired by the same fantastical yet conceptual world. In addition to sculpture and puppet-making, he was also active in painting. Before focusing extensively on puppet design, he was considered one of Iran’s most accomplished sculptors and was among the distinguished students of Parviz Tanavoli, a leading master of Iranian sculpture, at the Faculty of Fine Arts. Nemati Sharif’s first solo exhibition was held in 1996 (1375) at Aaria Gallery. He passed away in 2012 (1391). During his lifetime, he presented numerous exhibitions of his works both in Iran and internationally. He was also awarded a prize at the Fourth Iranian Sculpture Biennial. In the years following his death, his works have continued to be exhibited in both solo and group exhibitions and have remained the focus of attention among audiences and art collectors.
