Dariush Qara-zad is a painter born in 1976 in Tehran. He began his artistic career at the age of twenty. In his paintings, Qara-zad focuses on the social space of urban women through a Pop Art lens and studies the cultural contrast between urban modernity and the social status of women in a city like Tehran. Over the years, Dariush Qara-zad has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in galleries across Iran and around the world, including the United States, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, and Australia. Some notable venues include the Iran Artists Forum, Etemad Gallery, Mohsen Gallery, Shokouh Gallery, Gallery Eyam Dubai, Designer’s Free Gallery (Sydney), Shirin Gallery, Freez London, D Gallery, Mall Gallery London, Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art, and many more. Qara-zad’s works have also been successfully featured in auctions in Tehran, Christie’s Dubai, Sotheby’s London, Bonhams London, and Eyam Dubai. His works have been published and introduced in five books on the history of contemporary Iranian art, including: The Artists, the Nude and Sensor published by American press Doppel House, Different Sames by Hossein Amirsadeghi (London), The History of Contemporary Iranian Art and An Inquiry into Contemporary Iranian Art by Hamid Keshavarzshikan, and Tehran Art, a compilation by more than thirty authors analyzing and presenting Pop Art in contemporary Iranian art.
