Davood Shahidi

Davood Shahidi, born in 1951 in Tehran, is an Iranian
cartoonist and humorist. He initially studied Electrical Engineering at Shiraz
University, before changing his field to Architecture at the University of
Tehran. He later studied Urban Architecture at Boston University in the United
States.

Shahidi began working professionally in cartooning during
his high-school years, when he became acquainted with artists including
Ardeshir Mohassess and Javad Mojabi. His works were published in periodicals
including Jahan-e No, Khosheh, Negin-e Keyhan, and Abnoos.

He is recognized as an influential figure in the formation
and development of black humor in Iranian cartooning. Before the 1979
Revolution, he held solo exhibitions at venues including Lito Gallery and Zand
Gallery, as well as at galleries affiliated with European cultural
associations. After the 1990s, he continued his artistic activities through
further solo exhibitions, including exhibitions at Seyhoun Gallery.

His published books include Labod Kasi Boodam and Dar Zehn Raqsidan.
