Fatemeh Emdadian, a modernist sculptor, was born in 1955 in Tabriz, Iran. She completed her studies at the School of Fine Arts in Tehran and the Faculty of Decorative Arts (University of Art, Tehran). Emdadian began her professional career in the late 1980s, holding her first solo exhibition in 1990 at Seyhoun Gallery, Tehran. Her works are primarily centered on the human figure and can be technically divided into two main categories: bronze and wooden sculptures. Her wooden sculptures, often scaled close to the human body and marked by distinctive diagonal cuts, embody an abstract language with a modernist approach. Her bronze works, in both large and small formats, explore themes of connection, rupture, suffering, and existential tension. Over several decades, Emdadian has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Iran and internationally. Her work has been presented in events such as the First Beijing International Art Biennale. She has also been active in the field of public sculpture. Among her works is Life, a sculpture once installed at the Iranian Artists Forum, which was later stolen and went missing.
