Fereydoun Ave

Fereydoun Ave, artist, designer, and painter, was born in 1945 in Tehran. From 1963 to 1970, he studied Theatre Arts at Arizona State University and later Film Aesthetics at New York University. Between 1970 and 1973, Ave worked as a graphic and set designer at the Iran-America Society in Tehran, where he also held his first exhibition in 1975. For several years, he collaborated with the Workshop Theatre, Tehran’s City Theatre, and the Shiraz Arts Festival, designing costumes, sets, and posters. Ave went on to serve as the director of Zand Gallery in Tehran and Hidden Zand in Washington, D.C. Later, he founded Gallery 13 and Vong Gallery in Tehran, as well as XVA Gallery in Dubai. Ave is an artist proficient in various media, leaving lasting works across film, set design, painting, graphic design, photography, collage, and sculpture. His works, in addition to being collected in private collections around the world, are also held by prestigious institutions and museums, including the British Museum (London), the Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York), the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Centre Georges Pompidou (Paris), the Cy Twombly Foundation, and the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art. Notable series of his works include Rostam in the End of Summer, Kokab-e La‘l, and Untitled.
