Iran Darroudi was a painter and director, born in 1936 (1315 SH) in Neyshabur, Iran. She spent her childhood between Iran and Germany. From an early age, her passion for painting became evident, and she participated in free art classes. In 1954 (1333 SH), she moved to Paris to study painting at the École des Beaux-Arts, later continuing her studies in stained glass (vitrail) at the Royal Academy of Brussels and in art history at the École du Louvre. Her professional career began in the late 1950s. Her first solo exhibition was held in 1958 (1337 SH) at the Miami Beach Art Center in the United States. She later exhibited her works in numerous countries, including France, Japan, Mexico, Canada, and Iran. While her style bears some resemblance to surrealism, it is deeply rooted in a personal, symbolic vision of life, time, and nature. Darroudi also directed over 80 art documentaries, wrote art criticism in various publications, and taught art history for several years at Sharif University of Technology in Tehran. Her paintings—marked by a masterful play of light, space, and color—hover between reality and dream. In the final years of her life, she dedicated many of her works to founding a museum in her name. Iran Darroudi passed away in October 2021 .
