Jafar Rouhbakhsh was an Iranian painter born in 1940 in Mashhad. Due to certain characteristics of his work, he is considered part of the Saqqakhaneh school of painting. From 1957 to 1960, he studied at the School of Fine Arts. He later pursued his undergraduate and graduate studies between 1963 and 1970 at the Faculty of Decorative Arts. His works were first exhibited in a group show at the Reza Abbasi Hall. Rouhbakhsh’s first solo exhibition was held in 1965 at the Faculty of Fine Arts. He also dedicated many years of his life to teaching in the art faculty. In his early years, Rouhbakhsh explored abstract compositions featuring earthy textures, organic forms, and muted tones. However, in the early 1980s, his style began to shift. During the final decade of his artistic career, his work increasingly focused on the Gol-o-Morgh (flower and bird) theme, characterized by decorative motifs and vibrant, jewel-like colors. Jafar Rouhbakhsh passed away in 1996.
