Jalil Rasouli

Jalil Rasouli

Jalil Rasouli, a prominent Iranian calligrapher and painter, was born on September 27, 1947, in Hamadan, Iran. From childhood, he showed a keen interest in calligraphy and began his early training in his hometown. In 1956, his family moved to Tehran, where Rasouli continued to develop his artistic skills. Between 1961 and 1966, through practice and research, he expanded his knowledge in calligraphy and Naghsh-e-Khat (calligraphic painting) and later established his own studio. A turning point in his artistic journey came in 1968 when he met Master Seyed Hassan Mirkhani, under whom he studied for two years, ultimately earning his master’s degree in calligraphy in 1989. Rasouli held his first solo exhibition in 1973 at Seyhoon Gallery, marking the beginning of his prolific career in contemporary Iranian art. In addition to exhibitions in Iran, his works have been showcased internationally in countries including Pakistan, Italy, Syria, China, Germany, the United Kingdom, Qatar, Dubai, and Lebanon. Notable exhibitions include Siah-Mashgh-ha-ye Enghelab (Revolutionary Sketches), Allah Akbar, and Simorgh. His work blends classical techniques with personal expression in calligraphy and calligraphic painting, emphasizing the aesthetics of script and visual rhythm. Rasouli has copied significant texts such as the Persian translation of Nahj al-Balagha and Ferdowsi’s Shahnameh, and his works have been published in books including Jan-e Janan, Yadegar-e Eshgh, and Marqeh Barg-e Sabz va Chahar Fasl. He also designed the title script for Majid Majidi’s film Mohammad, another highlight of his artistic achievements.
