Karim Nasr

Karim Nasr, painter and sculptor, was born in 1952 in Rasht, Iran. As a teenager he moved to Tehran, and in his early adulthood he went to London to study architecture at the Polytechnic of Central London. He did not complete this program and, after returning to Iran, pursued painting at the University of Art in Tehran, where he studied under Mohammad Ebrahim Jafari, Mehdi Hosseini, and Bahman Boroujeni. Nasr later received his M.A. in Graphic Design from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Tehran. In the years following the Revolution and during the Iran–Iraq War, he continued his artistic practice. In 1996 (1375), he held his first solo exhibition of drawings and paintings at Arya Gallery. Alongside organizing solo exhibitions and participating in group shows, he worked as a graphic designer and illustrator with publications such as Kayhan, Roshd, and Koodakan magazine. Nasr has received numerous national and international awards, including the Gold Plaque at the Bratislava Illustration Biennial and First Prize at the Iran Design Biennial. In addition to his studio practice, he is active as an educator, researcher, and writer in the field of visual arts.
