Mansoor Ghandriz

Mansoor Ghandriz

Mansour Ghandriz, a modernist painter, was born in 1935 in Tabriz. He began his artistic education at the Tehran High School of Fine Arts and later completed his studies at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Tehran. Through close study of Western classical painting and European modernism, he developed a distinctive approach to modern Iranian art and is regarded as one of the pioneers of the Saqqakhaneh movement. His first solo exhibition, held in 1960 at Reza Abbasi Hall, brought him public recognition. Together with several artists of his generation, he co-founded Iran Hall, which was later renamed Qandriz Hall in his honor. His works combine ritual and mythological symbolism, elements of Persian miniature painting, and simplified geometric forms, tracing a path from figurative to semi-abstract expression and securing him a lasting place in contemporary Iranian art. Many of his works have been presented and sold at the Tehran Auction and major international auctions such as Milleon & Associates, Sotheby’s, and Christie’s. Mansour Ghandriz passed away in 1965.
