Masoud Saadeddin, painter, designer, and writer, was born in 1956 in Semnan, Iran. He has pursued more than four decades of professional practice between Iran and Germany. Saadeddin graduated in 1980 from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Tehran, where he studied under prominent masters such as Hannibal Alkhas, Javad Hamidi, Marco Grigorian, Morteza Momayez, Jalal Shabahangi, and Mohsen Vaziri-Moghaddam. In 1986, he emigrated to Germany and has since maintained an active presence in both the European and Iranian contemporary art scenes. His first solo exhibition was held in the same year at the University of Tours in France, followed by presentations in numerous art institutions and museums, including Kunsthaus Troisdorf, the LVR-LandesMuseum Bonn, the City Museum of Troisdorf, the Brotfabrik Cultural Center in Bonn, as well as reputable galleries in Iran and Europe. In Saadeddin’s works, the human figure is central and is often depicted in calm, ambiguous, and suspended situations within simple, minimalist spaces. By using photography as a starting point and translating it into painting, he introduces a photographic, documentary-like quality alongside precise visual structures. Overall, his works maintain a balance between formal order and visual poetry, becoming a contemplative reflection on presence, silence, and the everyday life of contemporary human beings. In addition to painting, Saadeddin is also active as a writer of plays and theatrical texts, as well as authoring writings on visual arts.
