Mohsen Kiani, painter and researcher, was born in 1970 in Shiraz, Iran. He began his professional path by studying painting, earning his B.A. from Isfahan University of Art and his M.A. from Tarbiat Modares University in Tehran. He later moved to the United Kingdom to continue his studies, receiving both his Ph.D. and postdoctoral degree in architecture from the University of Birmingham. His artistic career began with participation in group exhibitions in Birmingham, and in 2011 he held his first solo exhibition in Tehran titled “The Cup of Being” at Sarban Gallery. He has since collaborated with Vista Gallery and Artibition, and his works have been exhibited in prominent museums both in Iran and internationally. In addition to his artistic practice, Kiani is active in research. His book Baluchestan: Architecture, Handicrafts, and Religious Symbols is the result of his scholarly work and was published by Oxford University Press. His artworks are inspired by Persian miniature painting and mythology, combining intricate details with contemporary elements to create multilayered narratives. In his works, the viewer’s shifting distance offers a dynamic experience of discovering meaning.
