Mojtaba Amini

Mojtaba Amini, a painter, was born in 1978 in Sabzevar, Iran. He holds a B.A. in Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Tehran, and began his professional practice before entering university. Working across painting, collage, and installation, Amini uses diverse materials and techniques to explore experiences such as violence, loss, fear, and collective memory. In his works, familiar elements and signs drawn from social life, through dark and sometimes violent compositions, become reflections of individual and historical experiences. Amini held his first solo exhibition in 1998 in Sabzevar and subsequently held several solo exhibitions in collaboration with Aran Gallery and O Gallery. His works have also been presented at international events including Art Dubai, Art Brussels, Teer Art, Contemporary Istanbul Art Fair, and Paper Positions Hamburg. In 2013, he received a fellowship from the Lepsien Art Foundation in Germany and an award from the Goethe-Institut.
