
Morteza Razfar, one of the pioneers of modern Iranian painting, was born in 1946 in the Gholhak district of Shemiran, Tehran. He graduated in Painting and Sculpture from Kamal-ol-Molk Art School, where he studied under prominent masters including Hossein Sheikh, Bahram Alivandi, Davoudi, and Rafie Halati. Natural landscapes and a distinctly semi-surrealistic approach are among the defining characteristics of his artistic practice. Razfar began his professional career as a painter in 1966 and held his first solo exhibition at Mes Gallery in 1970. Among his most notable exhibitions are the solo exhibition Raz (Secret) at Artibition Gallery (2019) and the group exhibition Imagine at the Iranian Artists Forum (2022).
