Nasser Ovissi, a painter, was born in 1934 in Tehran. He graduated in Political Science from the University of Tehran and also received diplomas in painting, lithography, goldsmithing, and pottery from Rome. Oil paint, watercolor, gouache, collage, gold leaf on canvas, paper, fabric, wood, pottery, and ancient stones on canvas are among the materials used in the creation of his works. In his first exhibition at the Tehran Painters’ Showcase in 1956, Ovissi received the event’s prize. Today, he is regarded as one of the most prominent figures in the visual arts on the international stage and has won numerous international awards. His works are housed in museums in Athens, Barcelona, Brussels, London, Zurich, Berlin, Paris, Rome, and Tehran. Nasser Ovissi’s works bear all the hallmarks of Eastern art, and particularly Iranian art, including calligraphic forms, the image of the Iranian “Lady Sun,” horses, and more. As an active member of the “Saqqakhaneh” art movement, he has skillfully preserved the features of Persian miniature painting in his art and has achieved worldwide fame.
