Parvaneh Etemadi

Parvaneh Etemadi is an Iranian painter born in 1947 (1326 SH) in Tehran. She entered the College of Fine Arts at the University of Tehran in 1968 (1347 SH) and became one of Iran’s most internationally recognized artists. In 2016, Etemadi was named among the 500 selected artists worldwide. Throughout her career, she has worked with various materials. In 1969 (1349 SH), she began producing figurative works, often featuring minimal oil-on-cement still lifes inspired by nature. She gained particular fame for her paintings of vases placed within tin pails, rendered with succinct, striking compositions. In her third artistic phase, she returned to childhood memories by using colored pencils, incorporating warm palettes, fabric, and Termeh (traditional Persian textiles) to create unique collages. Etemadi’s work has been featured in numerous global art auctions, and she has maintained a strong presence in the international art market. From 1971 (1350 SH) and for 25 years, she also taught open painting classes. Her practice blends multiple techniques with a poetic approach, and each technique bears her distinct mark. She is particularly known for her still lifes and cement-based works from the 1970s (1350s). Across her diverse media, she introduced fresh forms—flowers, pomegranates, fish, and textile figures are recurring motifs. Etemadi is widely regarded as an experimental artist who continuously explored the possibilities of her craft.
