Ramtin Zad

Ramtin Zad is a painter and sculptor, born in 1984 in Tehran. He received his high school diploma in art from Payam-e Moaser Art School in Tehran and graduated in 2007 with a BFA in Graphic Design from Jahad University. His first solo exhibition was held in the same year at Golestan Gallery in Tehran. Zad’s works have been presented in numerous group exhibitions in Tehran, London, Basel, Dubai, New York, and Kuwait, as well as at the Beijing International Art Biennale and the Tir Art Fair. In Ramtin Zad’s practice, painting and sculpture function in a complementary relationship. His paintings are driven by improvisation, speed in the creative process, and the energy of the moment. The visual spaces of his works are often dense and tumultuous, with figures and other elements placed in crowded and unstable situations; at times, however, he turns to solitary, static single figures. This tension between congestion and isolation is a defining characteristic of Zad’s visual language.
