Reza Lavasani

Reza Lavasani is a painter, sculptor, illustrator, and theater set designer, born in 1961 in Tehran. He began his artistic education at Tehran Boys’ Art School, specializing in graphic design, and later studied painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Tehran, from which he graduated in 1991. His first solo exhibition was held in 1994 at Aria Gallery in Tehran. Since then, his works have been exhibited continuously in prominent galleries such as Barg, Elaheh, Tarahan-e Azad, Assar, Mah, and Shirin. From the late 1990s onward, Lavasani turned seriously toward sculpture, which, alongside painting, became one of the central focuses of his artistic practice. Reza Lavasani has participated in major national and international art events, including Contemporary Istanbul, Art Dubai, Art International Istanbul, and Tir Art art fairs. His artistic career also includes participation in prestigious biennials such as the Venice Biennale, the Tehran and Bratislava Illustration Biennials, the Tehran Sculpture Biennial, and the Asian Art Biennale in Dhaka. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Noma Concours Award in Tokyo, the award of the Fourth Tehran Sculpture Biennial, and the Molana Stories Exhibition Award. His works have been published in the UNESCO calendar and have appeared in specialized art and illustration books and journals in Iran and abroad. Other aspects of Reza Lavasani’s professional activities include set and mask design for theater, illustration of more than 35 books published inside and outside Iran, writing specialized articles on illustration and painting, and developing curricula and educational content for instructional films on drawing and painting.
