Sima Shahmoradi

Sima Shahmoradi, born in 1972 in Isfahan, is a painter whose practice centers on a distinctive technique: she folds paper and adheres it to the canvas surface to create a reflective, prism-like effect, as if her subjects are mirrored across a geometric grid. The resulting image offers a blurred shadow of the original forms, evoking the texture and visual rhythm of traditional Iranian-Islamic mirrorwork. She holds a BFA in Painting from the Isfahan University of Art (1996) and an MFA in Painting from the University of Art in Tehran (2000). Her first solo exhibition was held in 2000 at Barg Gallery, followed by collaborations with Haftan and Homa galleries. Her works have also been included in the Tehran Painting Biennial (1995, 2011). Shahmoradi’s achievements include selection for the catalog of the Laura Orvieto Illustration Competition in Italy (2010) and receiving the Golden Pen Award at the Belgrade Biennial for her illustrations in the book The Tale of the Golden Orange (2011).
