Raad Charity

Raad, inspired by a verse from a chapter in Quran called Raad “God will not transform the status of a nation unless the nation attempts to transform it itself”, was established in 1984 dedicated solely to promote the cause of the physically disabled community. In the first few years, Raad held its educational courses in Aba Basir clinic. Gradually, as its services were embraced by a larger population of the community, Raads founders initiated the construction of a building in the late 1980s to meet the needs of people with physical disabilities. Today, this building with a built area of 4200 sq. meters is equipped with educational and cultural facilities such as buffet with semi-industrial kitchen, library, gallery, conference hall, classrooms, workshops and a rehabilitation clinic. The initial motive of the founders of Raad was to provide disabled individuals with education in applied sciences and technology to prepare them for the job market. However, lack of appropriate facilities in universities for people with disabilities encouraged Raad to establish Irans first higher education institution in 2011, which was specifically designed to meet the needs of the disabled. Shortly after, the Higher Education Center at Raad launched various Diploma and Bachelors degree course such as social working, software engineering and accounting. Raad has been registered as an NGO with public relations office of the United Nations (UNDPI) since 1997, and was granted consultative status by ECOSOC in 2014. These achievements, have made it possible for Raad to participate in global events and get recognized among the international charitable trusts. Raad provides scientific and skill-based education to more than 5000 members, with 30% of them successfully achieving job placements, and has set examples for all the other centers aiding the disabled. Currently, there are 18 centers with similar activities across the country. The charitable outlook of the founders of Raad has made it possible for its members to benefit from all services completely free of charge.
