The group exhibition "Beyond Two Dimensions" with sculpture works by famous artists of this field will be opened on Friday, February 13th at Artibishan Gallery.
Reza Bangiz, an Iranian contemporary printmaker, painter, and sculptor, was born in 1937 in Tehran. From early childhood, he showed a strong interest in art and received his painting diploma from Tehran’s Fine Arts High School in 1961. He then traveled to England to continue his artistic studies, but due to certain difficulties, he returned to Iran. Upon his return, he joined the Ministry of Culture and Guidance and moved to Tabriz to teach at Mirak Art School. During this period, he pursued linocut more seriously and exhibited his works locally. After six years of teaching in Tabriz, Bangiz was transferred to Isfahan, where he became acquainted with ceramics. In 1972, he was awarded a scholarship by the National Iranian Oil Company and spent a one-year study period in France. Upon returning, he resumed teaching at Tehran’s Fine Arts High School. Drawing on his experiences in Isfahan, he created tile illustrations and exhibited them at Sheikh Gallery in 1978. That same year, he received another scholarship to study in the United States for one year. Bangiz’s works have been exhibited widely in Iran and internationally. He has participated regularly in the Tehran Painting Biennial, winning awards in both the second and fourth editions, and has received the First-Class Artistic Medal. His practice combines elements of folk art, talismanic motifs, and prayers, often infused with a humorous and playful sensibility.
