Darush Hoseini

Darush Hoseini

Dariush Hosseini is a designer and painter, born in 1348. He began drawing spontaneously at the age of seven, without any formal instruction, and continued until the age of eleven. During this period, his works showed a strong tendency toward realism. He then stopped painting for seven years, largely due to his athletic activities, and completed his high school education in the experimental sciences stream One year after receiving his diploma, in 1369, he was admitted to the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Tehran in the Painting program. Since then, he has been continuously engaged in painting and drawing. His first solo exhibition was held in 1381 at Laleh Gallery, and to date he has more than 60 solo and group exhibitions in his record. During his student years, he practiced figurative drawing and painting through different approaches and techniques, and then moved toward abstract experiences in various styles (from 1369 to 1373). After this period, he pursued his Master’s degree in Illustration at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Tehran between 1376 and 1379. After completing his Master’s studies, and during the years 1379 to 1380, he turned to multiple formal experiments. In this period, he was laying the groundwork for what he considers to be among the most important aesthetic elements in his artworks to this day—what he refers to as the formal essence of painting. The outcome of these experiments was the emergence of three characteristics: destruction and depiction, collage, and improvisation. These have remained as the most significant formal features of his works up to the present. In relation to the diversity of his body of work, Dariush Hosseini believes that an artist should be able to expand both form and content by addressing a variety of subjects, and in each artwork to offer the audience the result of a new discovery and intuitive exploration. Dariush Hosseini has been a lecturer and a faculty member in the Painting Department at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Tehran, from 1375 to 1390.
