Hooshang Seyhoun, a prominent Iranian artist and architect, was born in 1920 in Tehran. He was one of Iran's most influential architects, playing a pivotal role in the development and promotion of modern Iranian architecture. Seyhoun grew up in an artistic family; his grandfather, Mirza Abdullah Farahani, was a pioneer of traditional Iranian music, a cultural background that profoundly shaped Seyhoun's artistic vision. After earning a degree in architectural engineering from the University of Tehran, he was invited by André Godard to Paris, where he studied at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts (Beaux-Arts) under Otello Zavaroni and earned a doctorate in art. Upon returning to Iran, Seyhoun designed his first major project, the Avicenna Mausoleum in Hamadan, at around the age of 23. He later gained fame for works such as the Omar Khayyam Mausoleum in Nishapur, the Kamal-ol-Molk Mausoleum, the Toos Museum, and the restoration of the Ferdowsi Mausoleum. In addition to his rich architectural portfolio, he served for many years as a professor and dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Tehran and held memberships in professional organizations such as the Supreme Council of Urban Planning and ICOMOS. Seyhoun's contributions to art extended beyond architecture; his paintings were exhibited both in Iran and internationally. Notable works include the Gol-Tappeh designs (1965), Bargijan (1970), the Felt Fish design (1977), a watercolor landscape (1977), and the oil painting Concerto (1999). Hooshang Seyhoun passed away in Canada in 2014.
