Jamshid Samavatian

Jamshid Samavatian

Jamshid Samavatian, a painter, was born in 1938 in Isfahan, Iran. He belonged to the second generation of modernist artists, whose works are largely analyzed within the framework of neo-traditionalism. Samavatian began his artistic training as a child. In 1959, he enrolled at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Tehran, where he studied alongside notable artists such as Aydin Aghdashloo and Abbas Kiarostami. Drawing inspiration from traditional Iranian art and Safavid-era murals, he developed a distinctive visual language that reflected the passage of time, decay, and mythological narratives. His first solo exhibition was held in 1964 at the Hilton Hotel in Tehran, and his final exhibition, titled Heritage, took place in 2021 at the Negar Gallery. Jamshid Samavatian passed away in 2021.
