Masoumeh Jahanbin shalkouhi
Masoumeh Jahanbin Shalkouhi is an Iranian sculptor, visual artist, and art researcher whose practice explores the reinterpretation of myths, archetypes, and cultural narratives within the context of contemporary art. Working primarily through sculpture while engaging in dialogue with painting and interdisciplinary approaches, she creates works that examine themes of power, identity, collective memory, women’s lived experiences, and social structures through symbolic and multilayered forms. At the core of her artistic practice, mythology functions not as a historical narrative but as a living framework through which contemporary realities can be re-examined and reimagined. In series such as Goddesses and The Ever-Demanding Gods, she redefines mythological figures to propose new readings of human relationships, power dynamics, and the condition of contemporary life. Drawing inspiration from the cultural and literary heritage of Iran, her works simultaneously engage in a cross-cultural dialogue with global audiences. In recent years, Jahanbin Shalkouhi has participated in several international art events, including two editions of the Qatar International Art Festival (QIAF), where she presented her work and was also invited as a speaker. Her works have been exhibited in Germany and Italy and have entered private collections through international exhibitions and art events. These experiences form part of her ongoing engagement with the broader discourse of contemporary art and its global networks.
