Siavash Kasraei, painter, was born in 1939 in Tehran. He spent most of his childhood in Khorasan and, at the age of 18, moved to Kermanshah, where he began his training in painting and the fundamentals of visual arts under Ms. Turner. At 20, he relocated to the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, where, influenced by the Vienna School, he developed his own visual language. Kasraei initially worked in oil painting, but watercolor became his primary medium—producing poetic and imaginative works often referred to as the “Siavashabad Landscapes.” His paintings combine modern European techniques with Iranian culture, mysticism, and his inner, contemplative world. His intellectual independence, avoidance of dominant art-market trends, and dedication to creative solitude secured his distinguished place in the history of contemporary Iranian painting. Kasraei passed away in Tehran in 2003.
