vanooshe shokri
The world is composed of infinite layers. These layers exist in galaxies, nature, and within all of us. My particular interest lies in the hidden layers of the human psyche; nested, unknown spaces that stimulate the sense of imagination. In my works, I sometimes portray a city in a dream, buildings suspended in space, nature, and at times, a vague fantasy. In these interwoven spaces, I create images that are ambiguous, and sometimes with complete clarity. I aim to extract a portion from the hidden layers of dreams and freeze it in a moment, then present it to the viewer. In fact, I aim to create a possibility for one to momentarily detach from the world and everything within it, and gaze upon their visualized dream. I believe that as much as the imaginary is ambiguous and unknown, reality is equally sharp and victorious. Drawing the space between these two can shape life as we desire. Because the visualization of both of them together, and what happens between them, creates a unique moment I seek to create. The elements that assist me in reaching this moment are lights, particles, ambiguous spaces, and a combination of elements from the past and present.
