Modernist art is one of the most important milestones in the history of art, emerging in response to the social, political, and industrial transformations of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. During this period, artists, distancing themselves from academic traditions, sought new visual languages to express the experience of modern humanity. Political and social movements—such as industrialization, world wars, revolutions, and urbanization—reshaped artists’ perceptions of reality, identity, and society. Consequently, art movements like Expressionism, Cubism, Futurism, and Dadaism arose as creative reactions to these changes. Examining the connection between political and social movements and modernist art reveals that modern art represents both an aesthetic transformation and a response to the crises, changes, and lived experiences of the modern world.
