Description

Zahra Etminan explores fragility and peculiarities through her work. Looking at these themes through a personal lens, she has built works that are delicate and unbalanced; yet keep their maintenance when influenced by physical forces. She also looks at reflection and projection by using light and color as the primary medium. She focuses on some psychoanalytical terms such as self- projection, repressed emotions, traumas, and unconsciousness. So to say she has got an interdisciplinary approach to art. Her background in psychoanalysis at Middlesex University, gave her a critical frame in which to evaluate her works
Karla Black inspires Zahra by her experimental works. She also focuses on the consequence of the work and the material she uses rather than the outcome. In this order, she uses the improvisation method, which helps her to be more creative and responsive to materials in the present moment regarding subjectivity. She developed a body of sculptural works with the theme of femininity and being a woman in the 21st century. Zahra explores using delicate but sustainable materials, which demonstrates an emotional, independent woman.
Based on her artwork, she tends to combine painting with sculpture and installation. Colors are very dominant in her works and in her recent light-based installation she tried to combine a variety of colors and geometric shapes to create the illusion of space. Laura Buckley's installations inspire her to explore creating interactive artworks in the future.
